Scotland is part of Great Britain or The United Kingdom, formed by the Treaty of Union on 06/01/1707 when a low turnout in Scotland's Parliament meant that the Pro Union Scottish MP's therefore in the majority that day, voted in favour of Scotland losing her hard won Independence. The English Government had already carefully manipulated the Scottish MP's and the public so as to achieve the necessary votes in favour of the Union. This was not difficult to achieve since Scotland's main exports and income came from cattle and linen and her primary market was England. The year 1704, three years previously, was the worst recession in living memory and so poverty stricken that the people were desperate and clutching at every option without thinking of the long term consequences. Given the major conflicts that peppered Scotland's history when firstly (only because recorded history starts then) the Romans were forced to return from inside Scotland to Hadrian's wall not forgetting William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and onwards with many more paying a heavy price for daring to question England's total domination of all things Scottish. Independence is not a new issue for Scotland. The Union brought into Law the complete control of Scottish currency, taxation and trade by binding them under Laws promulgated in London for the benefit of England. Scotland is currently enjoying a renaissance in Independence Movements all working for the same end result but with different agendas as to how to implement the changes and who benefits to put it simply.
This story is played out in many countries around the globe with most having long historical records of strife and war with many dying on either side. The domination of the world under the heel of one Nation was brought to its near ultimate conclusion under the British Empire, an empire the English had been creatively nurturing, seizing, claiming and brainwashing through fear, starvation (Ireland is the perfect example )and completely overhauling the Education systems (if they were allowed education)and history. Rewriting History has a special significance. It was always said "History is written by the Victors' and the English probably took this to new heights as has been seen and is still visible today in so many former colonies in Africa, Asia and the rest of the globe. The population do not have the slightest clue about the real history of their countries. They do not know the backstabbing, double dealing, murdering and underhand illegal methods employed by the "British Government" which in reality is still the English Parliament since anything counter to England's interests is automatically undermined and relegated to oblivion to stop any move towards independent thinking let alone political independence. Scotland today has many factions siding with London for the usual reasons of retaining assets and income streams from land, fishing, agriculture, transport and all the other forms of infrastructure and everyday life we take for granted. However the situation is not intractable, far from it. Like someone once said "It's not the marriage but the divorce you must consider first".
Where will Scotland go once independence is achieved? Will it enter into agreements and treaties with England and Wales? Surely, since much of the movement of people and goods is between them and the economic necessity of this overrides the usual constraints (on a level playing field, not one the English are noted for allowing). However even if this is agreed to a workable degree of supposed mutual satisfaction, there will still be the nature of an Independent Scotland's relationship with other nations including the European Union and the USA, Japan, China, Russia and India.
With the exception of the USA and the EU, the rest will be fairly straightforward given that most of the other nation's fall into three camps with the interesting exceptions like North Korea which are a minefield to interpret or interrelate with. The first camp is the EU/UK/USA and their allies whose agenda is total control whether that be economic, political or social using any method applicable including regime change and undermining through sanctions the viability of the nation economically.
The second is nations like Russia and China whose agendas are more long term and based on trade and interchanges over time with no extreme immediacy unlike the UK/USA/EU camp. They will be far more mutually beneficial in the short and long term both for Scotland and the other participating country. The third camp is the outsiders like North Korea, Venezuela etc. These will be problematic to say the least as trade or interactions with them will be in conflict with the UN and USA/EU sanctions and other restrictions that have been applied to them (supposedly Legally though who was included in the decision making is another matter entirely). The EU unfortunately promises two very immediate and pertinent things. One, an unchanged version of giving up the control gained by becoming Independent, of the entire main body of the legislature meaning currency, taxation, trade, etc.etc. So back to square one. Just like being under England's boot. And two, inclusion into the Defence System and the implementation of all that implies.
Again, putting Scotland at the mercy of the EU in that it will have to follow all treaties, wars, sanctions set and the financial costs of those that the EU has entered into whether they are the diametrical opposite of the feelings, views, aspirations or ethics of Scotland's people. And since the EU may (again supposedly) have divorced from England via the Brexit fiasco, the truth is far more prosaic. The EU and UK will still be members of NATO and fight America's Wars. Where will Scotland stand on this extremely complex issue? To join with NATO to shield under the American Nuclear 'Umbrella' and so put itself in the position of having to implement actions morally repugnant to the majority of Scottish people like invading Libya, Syria etc. Or attempting to undermine Novorossia for Kiev's (Ukraine's) benefit and so ultimately the benefit of American and European multinational conglomerates and corporations.
The relationship with the USA is completely different. On the outside, it will look like a twin of the EU and UK's with Scotland but on the inside the picture will be quite different. The USA thinks of only one thing. Business. How do they benefit. And to hell with how it affects anyone else, positively or negatively. It's not their problem. Oh there will be the right noises and signs made volubly for all to see but the truth is there will be no real allowances made for the needs of the people of Scotland, only those of America. Remember at whose knee the infant Americans sat. The British. And they learned fast and improved upon it so that when the chance arrived with the Second World War, they took over the dominant role in the world and systematically raped it for their own benefit as the English had done so successfully before them.
So Scotland what will you decide? Yes, you will fight to gain independence and break the Union and succeed in the medium to long term (I hope it's the short but barring an unexpected change of heart by the English or earth shattering occurrence of some kind, highly difficult to predict )but then what? The world has become even more fractionalised breaking into rigid groups like the USA/EU/UK and flowing alliances shifting according to the moment and its issues. The old previously understood ways of doing business have long been seen for what they are.
Saccharine covered nests of invidious and venal self serving Legal gobbledygook with the big players gaining at everyone's expense and the small players dividing up what is left among themselves. Scotland, you need the Bruce's, Earls of Mars and Wallace's with all their flaws to fight the fight at the highest level as well as the lowest violent one because the orator's, charismatic leaders, delusional nationalists and other actors must be visible for the public to latch onto and follow. The campaign has to gain even more momentum. And secondly, you need people of high intellect with or without qualifications because thought does not only afflict those who are educated. These will ponder and conclude the issues and ultimately debate with the people of Scotland the direction they will take. Then, and only then, will Scotland be independent.
To boldly write what is never written.
